Best AI visibility tools for Chinese exporters (2026): what to buy when your buyers ask ChatGPT, not Google

A buyer's guide to AI visibility monitoring for Chinese exporters and cross-border brands: what the tools measure, a shortlist of Profound, Peec AI, Otterly, Semrush, AnswerGraph and Miaowa GEO with verified facts, and how to choose by scenario.

Overseas buyers increasingly ask an AI assistant which suppliers to shortlist before they ever open a search results page. If your factory or brand is not in that answer, the rest of your funnel never starts. AI visibility tools exist to tell you whether you appear, how you are described and which web pages the assistant cites. This guide is written for a Chinese exporter's procurement reality: contracts, invoices, payment methods and support language matter as much as feature lists.

What these tools actually measure

  • Mention: does the answer name your brand at all when the question does not?
  • Recommendation: are you in the shortlist the assistant gives, and in what position?
  • Description accuracy: does the assistant state your capacity, certifications and products correctly?
  • Citations: which URLs does the answer cite, and are any of them yours?
  • Change over time: does any of the above move after you change your website or earn coverage?

Two design choices separate tools more than any feature: how the answer is obtained (through the product's web interface, through an API, or modelled from a prompt database) and how many prompts you get for the price. Both determine whether a number in a report can be traced back to a real answer on a real day.

What changes when the buyer is Chinese and the customers are not

  • Contracting and invoicing: most overseas SaaS tools bill a foreign entity in USD or EUR by card. If your finance team needs a Chinese VAT invoice and a domestic bank transfer or WeChat Pay, that is a hard filter before any feature comparison.
  • Support language: dashboards can be used in English, but escalations about a failed run or an incorrect brand description need someone who reads your product catalogue.
  • Two platform families: your overseas buyers use ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI surfaces, Copilot and Claude; your domestic customers use Doubao, DeepSeek, Kimi, Qwen and Yuanbao. No single tool in the table samples both families through their web interfaces. Treat them as two projects.
  • Region and account state: assistants answer differently from a US browser session than from a Chinese one. Ask any vendor where their sampling runs from and whether the session is logged in.
  • Data boundaries: prompts about your products travel to third-party platforms. Do not put customer lists, quotes or unreleased specifications in prompts, whichever tool you use.

What we saw in our own September 2026 sample

We asked six AI assistants (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, Microsoft Copilot, Perplexity) 44 unbranded buyer-style questions about AI visibility monitoring, once each, on 8 September 2026, and kept every answer and citation. In 264 answers, Profound was named in 139, Otterly in 132, Peec AI in 118 and Semrush in 89; Chinese vendors appeared in 35 answers, almost always through roundup articles on Chinese news portals. Eighty-nine percent of cited pages were in English. That is one snapshot with one run per prompt, not a market share estimate, but it shows which names an assistant reaches for first and why an English-language presence matters even for a Chinese vendor.

Questions to ask any vendor before paying

  1. Is each platform sampled through its web interface or an API, and from which country?
  2. How many prompts, how often, and how many runs per prompt per cycle?
  3. What is stored per run: answer text, screenshot, cited URLs, timestamp, region, language?
  4. How are refusals, not-triggered answers and failed runs counted in the denominator?
  5. Can I export cited URLs with the prompt, platform and date they appeared?
  6. Who is the contracting entity, what currency, what invoice, and is renewal automatic?
Do I need daily sampling?
Only if you can act daily. Most exporters change their website or earn coverage on a scale of weeks; a 72-hour cadence gives 10 or more comparable points a month, and daily data mostly adds noise unless you have a large prompt set.
Can one tool cover Chinese and global AI platforms?
Not through web-interface sampling, as of the check date. Buy or build two projects and align their measurement basis so that mention rates are defined the same way.
Is an AI visibility score comparable between tools?
No. Denominators, prompt sets, regions and status handling differ. Compare a tool with itself over time, not with another tool.
